V. Check and adjustment for valve timing mechanism
Valve timing mechanism shall be checked and maintained frequently. Once timing chain is broken or slipping, the valve, piston and cam shaft may be damaged.
1 Timing gear installation position check and adjustment
Remove ignition coil, PCV vent pipe assembly and cylinder head assembly.
Adjust cylinder #1 to compression TDC: rotate crankshaft vibration damping pulley until white mark groove on the pulley aligns with timing mark “0” on timing cover. Check if intake/exhaust cam shaft timing sprocket wheel aligns with timing mark on corresponding cam bearing cap. As shown in Fig. 3, if they do not align, rotate crankshaft by one turn (360°), and align timing marks according to the procedure above.

2 Valve clearance check and adjustment
Intake valve clearance is 0.19mm~0.29mm in cold state; exhaust valve clearance is 0.38mm~0.48mm in cold state. When measuring the clearance, make the tappet surface close to base circle of the cam.

If valve clearance is too small, it will affect dynamic property of the engine. Service life of oxygen sensor and three-way catalytic converter will be shortened greatly due to valve leakage.

Maintenance items in this section shall be made by special service station of our company.
